The mountains are at the heart of our event. That's why we've committed ourselves to organizing the Churfirsten Trail Run as sustainably as possible, step by step – ecologically, socially, and economically.

We understand sustainability not as a single measure, but as an attitude. With every decision, we ask ourselves how we can carry out our event with the lowest possible resource consumption while simultaneously providing an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

This route has also been independently verified: The Churfirsten Trail Run is listed on EventKit , the Swiss platform for sustainable cultural and sporting events, and meets 92% of the sustainability criteria.

 

Here is a selection of specific measures:

 

 

• Travel to Toggenburg by public transport. We encourage travel by public transport and actively provide information about sustainable travel options.

• Bring your own cup . Everyone drinks from their own cup along the route – this saves thousands of disposable cups.

• Trail running for everyone . With our new 5km route, we make getting started in trail running easier and more accessible.

• Avoid waste instead of producing it . In our festival catering, we consciously serve drinks in PET bottles and ensure that these are collected and professionally recycled.

• Sustainable catering . For the pasta party, we use eco-friendly disposable tableware made from renewable resources.

• Regional catering and partners. In the festival tent and at the food and beverage stands, we rely on regional products and partners wherever possible – including Appenzeller beer, Morga, regional cheese and other suppliers from Eastern Switzerland.

• Conscious sourcing instead of buying cheap. For medals, finisher gifts, and event apparel, we ensure traceable supply chains. Our medals are produced in Europe, the coasters are made at the Johanneum by people with disabilities, we source finisher gifts from a Swiss company, and our event apparel is manufactured in Germany.

• Respect for nature. Our routes follow existing paths. We work closely with authorities and landowners and leave nature as we would like to find it. More information on wildlife and nature conservation.

• New impetus for the region. With the Churfirsten Trail Run, we are reaching new target groups and helping to make Toggenburg known as an attractive outdoor and tourism region beyond national borders. The event creates additional value for hotels, restaurants, and local businesses, thus contributing to sustainable regional development.
